Thinking about acupuncture but not sure what to expect? Below are straight answers to the questions patients ask Dr. Jonathan M. Fields, DAOM, most often at CR8 Health Boca on Glades Road. If your question is not here, call (561) 922-8418 and the front desk will help.

First visit

What happens at my first acupuncture visit in Boca Raton?

Your first visit with Dr. Jonathan M. Fields, DAOM, starts with listening. He takes a full health history, reads your pulse and tongue, and examines the areas that bother you. Then he chooses points that fit you rather than a generic chart, and you rest quietly while the needles do their work.

What should I tell the clinic before my first visit?

Comfort and safety

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel little more than a light tap as the needles go in. Acupuncture needles are very fine, sterile, and single use. After placement, many patients describe the rest of the session as deeply relaxing. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell Dr. Fields and he will adjust the needle or the point right away.

Is acupuncture safe alongside my medical care?

Acupuncture performed by a licensed practitioner with sterile, single use needles is generally well tolerated. Dr. Fields is a Florida licensed acupuncturist (license AP3879). Care here supports, and never replaces, the care you get from your physicians, and every herb or supplement is checked against the medications you already take.

Treatment plans

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are treating, how long it has been going on, and how your body responds. Dr. Fields will suggest a plan after your first visit and review progress with you as you go. There is no fixed package, and your plan is adjusted to how you actually feel.

Pain and dry needling

What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

Dry needling places a fine needle into a trigger point, a tight and tender knot in an overworked muscle, which often produces a brief twitch before the muscle relaxes. Acupuncture uses classical points chosen from a whole person exam. Dr. Fields is certified in dry needling and often blends both in one session.

Can acupuncture help with back, neck, or joint pain?

Pain care is one of the most common reasons people visit. Dr. Fields treats back, neck, shoulder, knee, and headache complaints with acupuncture, dry needling, and orthopedic style assessment of how the joint and surrounding tissue move. Results vary from person to person, and care can work alongside your other treatment.

Fertility and IVF

Can I get fertility acupuncture while doing IVF?

Yes. Fertility sessions are planned around your cycle or your treatment calendar. If you work with a reproductive endocrinologist or IVF clinic, sessions are timed around their protocol and never replace it. Herbal formulas are only suggested when they make sense, and they are checked against your specialist's guidance first.
