Gut Health and Digestive Support in Boca Raton

Bloated by mid afternoon, unsure which foods are the problem, or tired of hearing that your tests look normal? Dr. Jonathan M. Fields supports digestive health with a combination of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and functional medicine, tailored to how your own gut behaves.

Symptoms people often come in with

  • Bloating and gas, especially after meals
  • Constipation, loose stools, or swinging between the two
  • Reflux and heartburn
  • IBS type symptoms
  • Food sensitivities that seem to keep growing
  • Nausea or a heavy feeling after eating
  • Fatigue or brain fog after meals

What your first visit looks like

Your first visit runs longer than a follow up, because Dr. Fields wants the whole picture before he needles anything. Bring your recent lab work, a list of your medications and supplements, and any notes from your physicians.

He will ask about what you eat, when symptoms show up, bowel habits, past antibiotics and any digestive diagnoses or tests you have had, along with sleep, digestion, energy, stress and what you eat on a normal day. Then he checks your pulse and tongue, the two classic diagnostic signs in Chinese medicine, and does a hands on exam.

Most people receive their first acupuncture treatment that same day. You leave with a written plan: how often to come in, which herbs or supplements make sense for you, and one or two food or lifestyle changes to start with, not twenty.

How acupuncture, herbs and functional medicine work together

Acupuncture is used to support calm, regular digestion. Stress and the gut are tightly linked, and many people notice they digest better when they are less wound up.

Chinese herbal medicine has a long tradition in digestive care. Formulas are chosen from your pattern, whether that looks more like sluggish, cold digestion or a hot, irritated gut.

Functional medicine adds the practical layer: reviewing labs you already have, adjusting diet in steps you can keep up, and using targeted supplementation for gut support where it fits.

Working with your other physicians

This care sits alongside your medical team, never in place of it. Dr. Fields does not ask anyone to stop a prescribed medication. Every herb and supplement is checked against what you already take, and with your permission he is glad to share notes with your physician, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist or rheumatologist so everyone is working from the same page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to follow a strict elimination diet?

Not usually at the start. Dr. Fields prefers a few clear changes you can keep up, then adjusts from there.

Can you work with my gastroenterologist?

Yes. This care is meant to sit alongside your GI care. Bring your recent test results and medication list.

What should I do if symptoms are severe or new?

See your physician first. Blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, trouble swallowing or severe pain need medical evaluation.
