Bigu is a process where the Qigong practitioner’s vital energy transitions from the air they breathe and the essence of food and water to drawing one’s sustenance strictly from the Qi in the air. “When filled with Qi, there is no desire to eat”, is an ancient quote. “Filled with Qi”, is a state achieved during the meditation process by ingesting air or visualizing energy into lower dantian (four finger below the belly button). This is called Fu Qi Bigu. Bringing Qi into the lower Danian is very effective in achieving the result of “being filled with Qi” so to experience Bigu without feeling weak or hungry.

    Swimming Dragon Qigong
    Most qigong exercises are gentle and stimulating. For weight loss and slimming effects, the exercises are more medical. The usual aerobics exercises will also help you lose weight, but doing the qigong versions will also enhance your qi as well.

    Visualization: Picture sac around heart, expel heat, impatience, hastiness, arrogance, and cruelty.
    After exhaling smile down to heart, visualize bright red colors. Feel joy, honor and sincerity grow in the heart.

    Take a deep breath as you place your hands with the index fingers resting at the bottom and slightly to the lest of the sternum, above the navel. Press in with the fingers as you push out with the middle back.

    Close the eyes, place hands on thighs, palms up and concentrate smiling energy on spleen, pancreas and stomach. Breathe into these organs, smile to them, and visualize bright yellow light shining and feel fairness growing.

    ARROGANCE OF WESTERN MEDICINE

    According to Health and Human Services figures in 1996 the number one cause of death in all ethnic groups was heart disease, including myocardial infarction, hypertension and stroke. All types of cancer was the number two cause of death. And The number three cause of death was diabetes and its complications of foot amputations, blindness, etc.  According to the American Heart Association the causes of heart disease are smoking, lack of exercise and poor (high fat) diet.  Now in all intelligence, how can taking a drug offset another drug like nicotine (smoking)?  How can taking a pharmaceutical drug balance lack of exercise?  How can poisoning your body offset a high fat diet?  Assuming the American Heart Association is correct and I think that they are, the profession of cardiology is not interested in treating the cause of heart disease, but merely the symptoms.

    Asking your oncologist why you have cancer, will not produce satisfactory answers. The causes of Cancer are unknown out side of environmental poisoning and heredity according to the American Cancer Society.  The treatment however, is surgery and Chemo/Radiation.  That is like using a Bazooka gun to kill a mouse.  Sure, you get rid of the mouse but your house is full of holes.  Using chemo/radiation is like blowing up your transportation system because of a traffic jam. Why would you poison your blood and potentially destroy your kidneys and liver just to kill cells that have mutated because of your own ignorance of diet and lifestyle? if you knew the cause of your cancer, would you try to reverse it naturally? Using Oriental Medicine to reverse the process of tumor formation, Surgery and Chemo/radiation becomes an option rather than standard treatment.

    Adult onset Type II Diabetes is an autoimmune deficiency disease.  It  is caused not so much by sugar intake, as fried foods, heavy starches and refined flours like bread and bagels. It can also be caused by iatrogenesis – the taking of drugs for other diseases.  Pregnancy complications can cause Gestational diabetes.  Why would you take a drug to control your blood sugar when you can change your diet? Some Medical doctors would say that patients will not comply with dietary changes.  I have asked many diabetics if they would change their diet to get off medications, and none have refused!

    Taking drugs is a choice and I am not blaming medical doctors.  They are only doing what they have been trained to do, PUSH DRUGS!  When first year medical students attend class the first week they are given a doctors bag with prescription drugs in it.  The message is quite clear, their job is to prescribe drugs.

    The science of logic dictates that if your premise is wrong, no matter how logical your argument is, the conclusion will be wrong.  The premise of Western Medicine is that humans are mechanical creatures that can repaired with interchangeable parts.  The premise of Oriental Medicine is that humans are electro-magnetic creatures that must be self regulated energetically.  The Western physician is a Mechanical engineer and the Oriental Physician is an Electrical engineer.  They are both engineers but what are they working on, and which system will yield the best results?

     

    MODERN ORIENTAL MEDICINE

    What is the alternative to drugs and surgery?  The answer has been around for over three thousand years. The Eight Limbs of Modern Oriental Medicine are Diagnosis, Breathing, Meditation, Exercise, Massage, Food, Herbs and Acupuncture.

    The Yellow Emperors Guide to Internal Medicine dates back to at least 300 hundred BCE.  In Sri Lanka, stone tablets written in Sanskrit describing acupuncture meridian therapy date back to 1000 BCE.  The Medical papyri of Egypt date back to at least 1800 BCE where they describe both the circulation of blood and Chi through twelve vessels, which is the basis of Oriental Medicine.  Gold and silver acupuncture needles have been found in Egyptian burial sites.

    Breathing exercises will correct many emotional problems before they become physical problems.   Oriental medicine is based on the circulation of Chi or Qi. This Chi is electro-magnetic energy that circulates through carefully defined pathways called meridians.  The literal translation of Ch’i is Breath.  This corresponds to the ancient Greek element called Pneuma or air that circulates within the body.  According to Tibetan medicine, the ultimate cause of all disease is a spiritual imbalance.  Observation shows us that when the spirit is weak, the breathing is shallow.  Picture if you will, a child observing her parents argue, or being abused, or feeling her siblings are the enemy, will contract her abdominal muscles, tense her body and hold her breath. This reduces the circulation of chi and is the origin of all disease.

    Meditation is a major tool in the Oriental Medicine Bag.  Unfortunately it is not part of our culture and we tend to lump it into esoteric, occult, anti-religious and cultist fads.  Adults create for themselves, job stress, money stress, in-law stress, etc.  They worry and are anxious about things they have no control over.  This mental stress is distracting from basic things like eating and sleeping.  We make poor food choices and do not get quality sleep when we are mentally stressed.  Meditation is the best way to still the mind, calm and relax the nervous system.  Meditation is the flip side of prayer and is a powerful daily ritual that helps you accomplish your goals.

    Exercise in the West is considered good for cardio-vascular strength and muscle training, however the other benefits are not well understood.  When exercising, one gets hot, which creates an artificial fever in the body that kills viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites.  If one exercises daily for 30-40 minutes, one automatically strengthens the immune system by routinely killing microbial infections.  Secondly, one perspires when hot, which opens the pores of the skin to eliminate toxins. Lastly, exercise squeezes and pumps the lymphatic system which increases function of the immune system and blood flow back to the heart.  The best exercises were invented in Asia which include Taoist Yoga and Medical Chi Gong. Meridian Chi gong activates the acupuncture meridians and stimulates the internal organs.  Tai Chi is a martial chi gong which has been adapted for health.

    There are eighty text books on Massage therapy written in the last two thousand years in China.  Only five of them were translated to create what we know as Swedish Massage.   Chiropractic or spinal manipulation was also described in writing at least one thousand years before D.D. Palmer invented Chiropractic manipulation.  All of the modern massage techniques such as Trager, Rolfing, Soma, Osteopathy, Cranial Sacral, etc. were known in Chinese and Tibetan Medicine.  Other techniques are Thai Massage, Ayurvedic Massage, Tibetan Massage and Tui-Na which is Chinese Medical Massage.  Tui-Na includes joint and spinal manipulation.

    Chinese Dietetics or Food Therapy is part of the development and culture of China and practically all of Asia. Through observation and understanding of seasonal change and availability of foodstuffs the Chinese, Persians, Hindus, Indonesians, etc. were able to make medical decisions part of the culture.  For example the seasoning we call curry powder is actually a medicine.  The five culinary spices of turmeric, garlic, cayenne, black pepper and ginger all have medicinal properties. Because refrigeration was non-existent until modern times, preserving food was a problem.  Using these spices all together was a way of strengthening the immune system to prevent food poisoning.

    Modern Chinese Herbal Medicine has developed a way to increase the potency of herbs and decrease the dosage. Typically one needs fifteen to thirty grams of herbal medicine to be effective.  This translates as ten to fifteen capsules per day, which many Americans would consider too many pills to take.  The ancient way of Herbal healing was to place the herbs in a soup pot that everyone in the family ate from, because if one person was sick, eventually they all would become sick.   When you read the names of Chinese Herbal formulas you  will usually see the word Tang at the end.  Tang means soup. Herbal Medicine or Herbal Food Therapy was both prevention and treatment.  Herbs could also be prepared as pills (wan), drinks (jiang), liqueurs (chieuw) or granules (kampo).

    Acupuncture is the eighth Limb of Modern Oriental Medicine. Jing-luo or Meridian Therapy is what the Chinese call their medicine, not Acupuncture.  Magnets, sound waves, laser light, electrical stimulation, heat, suction and pressure are used to stimulate the meridians.  Another ancient name translated as Heat and Pressure, is today called, Acu-Moxa therapy.  Acupuncture or Meridian therapy is the last resort in the Chinese Medicine Bag.  It is the inferior Physician who waits until his patients become sick before treatment.  It is the Superior Physician who teaches them how to prevent illness.

    Starting position: From a normal standing position, place your right leg back one step.

    1. Inhale twice with two half-steps, left hand’s Laogong point in front of dantien:

    Place your left hand’s Laogong point in front of your dantien. Keep the right arm hanging at your side. Move your right leg even with the left and pause, resting it on the ball of the foot. While the leg is moving, inhale halfway and pause the breath and foot briefly. Then take another half-step forward with the right leg, filling your lungs as you do. Pause briefly and hold your breath. Keep your left palm in front of your dantien.

     

    2. Exhale with one full step and switch arms:

    Now take the next step, a full step, with your left leg, landing your foot normally, ahead of the right. Exhale as you step. As you move your leg, switch your arms easily and normally, placing your right hand in front of your dantien, and the left arm by your side.

     

    3. Inhale twice with two half-steps, right hand’s Laogong point in front of dantien:

    Move your right leg even with the left and pause, resting it on the ball of the foot. While the leg is moving, inhale halfway and pause the breath and foot briefly.     Practice this for up to 2 hours a day.

     

    Guo Lin Gong:

    Three breathing and three openings and closings

    Stand straight with arms relaxed. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth three times. Bring your hands, palms facing each other, in front of your dantien. Then imagine there is an energy field between the hands. When inhaling, imagine the energy field expands and pushes your hands apart. When exhaling, imagine the energy field collapses and your hands go back to the original position. Do this three times.

     

    Rising and lowering with openings and closings

    Stand with feet about one leg’s length apart with arms hanging down on both sides. Then hold your hands up in front of your chest, palms facing. Hold them apart about shoulders’ width. When inhaling, imagine there is an energy field between your hands and the energy pushes your hands apart. Bend your knees to lower the stance. When exhaling, imagine that the energy field collapses. The hands go back to the original position (down to your sides). Straighten your legs. Repeat three times.

    Next take one step forward with your right foot. Hold your hands up in front of your chest at shoulders’ width apart, palms facing. When inhaling, imagine there is an energy field between your hands and the energy pushes the hands apart. When exhaling, imagine that the energy field collapses; drop your hands and bend the knees. Repeat three times.

    Next take one step forward with your left foot. Hold your hands up in front of your chest at shoulders’ width apart, palms facing. When inhaling, imagine there is an energy field between your hands and the energy pushes the hands apart. When exhaling, imagine that the energy field collapses; drop your hands and bend the knees. Repeat three times.

     

    Loosening the waist – Moving the arms and waist 

    Stand with feet apart about shoulders’ width. Place the right hand over the point (Sea of Qi) at one and one-half inches below the navel. Place the left hand at the back with the back of the hand resting on the acupoint Shenshu. (Shenshu points are one and one-half inches on the left and the right from the acupoint Ming Men. When inhaling, raise the front arm (right arm) in the front of the body all the way over your head. Then exhale and lower the arm by continuing to move in a large curve to the back and end up at the right Shenshu. Repeat with the other arm. Repeat three times.

     

    Turning with bow-arrow stance

    Place both hands on your back with the backs of your hands resting on Shenshu points. Step forward with your left leg and bend your left knee until you cannot see your toes. The right leg is straight. The width of the stance is about one leg’s length. Hold the position for the duration of six or nine counts. Repeat with the other side. Repeat six times.

     

    Tilting forward

    Place both hands on your back with the back of your hands resting on Shenshu points. Stand with both feet apart about shoulders’ width. Tilt forward about 15-20 degrees. Repeat tilting forward three times.

    Closing with three openings and closings and three breathing (closing means end of the practice).

    Stand straight with arms relaxed. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth three times. Bring your hands, palms facing each other, in front of your dantien. Then imagine there is an energy field between the hands. When inhaling, imagine the energy field expands and pushes your hands apart. When exhaling, imagine the energy field collapses and your hands go back to the original position. Do this three times.

    The Internal Qi-Gong Exercises direct the innate healing power to specific internal organs and glands to energize the entire body, balance the energy level, and promote a more effective functioning of the internal organs, in order to

    There are three categories of Internal Exercises.

    It is based on the Tao (The Way), which is the creator and sustainer of all things in the Universe, and the practice of doing by nondoing (wu-wei) that enables the disciple to unite with the Tao.

    This first sentence of his teachings seems paradoxical. In my humble opinion it says that everything that is in the world of form (or the world of the ten thousand things, as the Chinese said) is not the formless animating source, which is not nameable. It is like the analogy of the finger pointing to the moon, which is a pointer, but not the moon itself. Whenever the Tao is named, it is labeled and made into a concept which is not the eternal Toa itself.
    If you are interested, Wayne Dyer did a complete interpretation of the Tao te Ching called Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao.

    2. “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

    Really a quote to think about. How can that be in the first place: there is no rush and no hurry, but everything works out. Grass does not try to grow, it just grows. Water does not try to flow, it just flows. The only explanation is that everything is done in a naturally perfect way, without resistance and within the flow of life …

    3. “Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.”

    The Inside-Out approach tells us to start with the man in the mirror. Self-mastery is the basis for success, for yourself as well as with others.

    4. “To see things in the seed, that is genius.”

    To me this means nothing else as being able to form a personal vision for something. Genius for that matter, is to see the potential in something or someone, although not realized yet (“in the seed”). It is the essence of forming a vision of what might be and then going on making it real.

    5. “When the best leader’s work is done the people say: We did it ourselves.”

    A leader is not a good leader if he is so ego-driven that he is always standing in front of his team, and is letting the team feel it. The most empowering way is to inspire people so that they become able to realize their own potential.

    6. “When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”

    Non-attachment – even or especially to ones own self-image – is the necessity for personal change. If we are open to change and to new possibilities and perspectives, without buying into them blindly, we can grow.

    7. “To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.”

    This is a realization that can be understood intuitively if we practice meditation and/or are able to quiet the mind of the constant chatter of thoughts.

    8. “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

    This emphasizes that getting started is often the hardest part of the journey. Even the greatest thing is started and then continued by single little steps, one after another. It also has the very practical meaning of breaking huge projects down into small and doable tasks, that then can be executed more easily.

    9. “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe.”

    In my opinion this is Lao Tzu’s expression of “intentions manifesting” or “thoughts become things”, which is also discusses widely as the secret or the law of attraction. But it is really a much more elegant way to put it :)

    10. “At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.”

    All you need to really find yourself is to look inside. It reminds me of what Eckhart Tolle said at the beginning of The Power of Now: Those who have not found their true wealth, which is the radiant joy of Being and the deep, unshakable peace that comes with it, are beggars, even if they have great material wealth.”

Whenever the Tao is named, it is labeled and made into a concept which is not the eternal Toa itself.

    2. “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

    Really a quote to think about. How can that be in the first place: there is no rush and no hurry, but everything works out. Grass does not try to grow, it just grows. Water does not try to flow, it just flows. The only explanation is that everything is done in a naturally perfect way, without resistance and within the flow of life …

    3. “Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.”

    The Inside-Out approach tells us to start with the man in the mirror. Self-mastery is the basis for success, for yourself as well as with others.

    4. “To see things in the seed, that is genius.”

    To me this means nothing else as being able to form a personal vision for something. Genius for that matter, is to see the potential in something or someone, although not realized yet (“in the seed”). It is the essence of forming a vision of what might be and then going on making it real.

    5. “When the best leader’s work is done the people say: We did it ourselves.”

    A leader is not a good leader if he is so ego-driven that he is always standing in front of his team, and is letting the team feel it. The most empowering way is to inspire people so that they become able to realize their own potential.

    6. “When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”

    Non-attachment – even or especially to ones own self-image – is the necessity for personal change. If we are open to change and to new possibilities and perspectives, without buying into them blindly, we can grow.

    7. “To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.”

    This is a realization that can be understood intuitively if we practice meditation and/or are able to quiet the mind of the constant chatter of thoughts.

    8. “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

    This emphasizes that getting started is often the hardest part of the journey. Even the greatest thing is started and then continued by single little steps, one after another. It also has the very practical meaning of breaking huge projects down into small and doable tasks, that then can be executed more easily.

    9. “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe.”

    In my opinion this is Lao Tzu’s expression of “intentions manifesting” or “thoughts become things”, which is also discusses widely as the secret or the law of attraction. But it is really a much more elegant way to put it :)

    10. “At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.”

    All you need to really find yourself is to look inside. It reminds me of what Eckhart Tolle said at the beginning of The Power of Now: Those who have not found their true wealth, which is the radiant joy of Being and the deep, unshakable peace that comes with it, are beggars, even if they have great material wealth.”
